Statements released by Superintendent and Gubernatorial Candidate Marc Thielman in response to attacks about a Benton County Public Health sponsored event listed on his school district’s website.

At a time when we should all rise up to be on the same mission of putting kids and families first through fighting for medical freedom for all Oregonians, some of my opponents are jumping onto an opportunity to play politics, rather than standing up as I am to do all they can to protect parental rights.

There is an upcoming clinic event discussed in circulating screenshots from our district website which is 100% hosted by the Benton County Health Department, and NOT the Alsea School District.

Benton County has a long-standing history of using our public school site for public health activities, which includes their upcoming vaccine clinic that will take place for three hours in the evening on Tuesday, February 1, after school hours. In a small rural setting like Alsea, very few physical community-gathering sites exist.

We strongly support parental rights, in-person learning, informed consent, are now mask-optional and are against discriminatory vaccine policies, which is why our district has exploded with enrollment across our programs over the last two years in particular, adding to the continued growth this district has seen since I came on as superintendent more than a decade ago. We advocate for student and parental rights and partner together with families to honor their wishes for their children.

Let me be clear: I do not allow Benton County Health to do all-day, school-based clinics, nor give teen vaccine incentives as most other school districts actually have been doing. The later hours allow parents to be involved and available to provide informed consent if they choose to pursue that decision.

We are trying to update the listing on the Alsea district website to clarify this critical distinction between a school sponsored activity and what is sponsored by Benton County. Unfortunately, it’s unclear how it currently reads now at first glance. Again, the clinic is run by Benton County—not the Alsea School District—and certainly NOT while kids are in school.

“Marc” is not hosting a vaccine clinic! The Benton County Health Department is holding this clinic. They are setting up on the public campus after the end of the school day, when kids are gone and off campus. I did not, nor have I ever, allowed them to take place during the school day like other school districts across our state—including likely in the very areas these other candidates reside in!

I am not anti-vaccine; I am very anti-mandate and VERY pro-medical freedom!

Out of desperation, other campaigns are now quietly sharing this misleading information behind-the-scenes as I continue to prioritize parents and students through decisive action, this time by returning local control to our district and making masks optional, while others running to be your next governor are trying to smear me and this grassroots, people’s rights-centric campaign.

I spoke out against lockdowns and I kept my school open when other schools were closed across the state, saving hundreds of families from extreme hardship—including from youth suicide—as we tragically witnessed those stories shared across other regions throughout Oregon where schools were closed and families struggled.

Our campaign’s continued growth and momentum following the latest round of news coverage—including the national interview with FOX News Channel’s the Ingraham Angle—is showing more Oregonians that I have been a true man of action and will stand up to do what’s right.

Hundreds of members of the Oregon public, including medical professionals and licensed physicians, school officials, teachers, veterans, business owners, hearing impaired adults, a former city councilwoman from Cottage Grove and parents of school-aged children, each testified for three minutes during an eight hour period on Thursday to participate in the Oregon Health Authority’s meeting to submit public comment on the proposed rulemaking for Oregon Administrative Rule 333-019-1025, a change that would adopt a permanent rule “requiring masks to be worn in indoor spaces in Oregon.”

Every single person who testified was firmly against OHA’s proposed permanent rule, stating state, federal and international agency-referenced COVID-19 and mental health statistics, learning delays for children, economic losses, multi-billion dollar agency budgets and more. Over the span of the meeting, which began at 10:00 a.m. and ended after 5:00 p.m., more than four hours past the original end time, many Oregonians called out top OHA officials for not being present during the meeting, a lack of medical degrees and “qualifications,” and on two occasions, the Twisted Sisters’ famous song, “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” was either sung or played during the testimony as a sort of an anthem for how members of the public were feeling. More than a dozen testifiers used part of their time allotted to directly praise fellow Oregonians for their previous testimony and encourage the listening public to stand up and defy the current “unjust and discriminatory” COVID-19 restrictions through peaceful non-compliance.

Not one single person, who testified January 20, was in support of OHA’s proposed permanent indoor mask rule–currently set to expire after February 8–despite the full day of testimony from hundreds of Oregonians and OHA requesting an individual’s statement of position on the rule upon registration to testify.

“One gentleman made a statement that politely summed up the sentiment of all who testified: ‘Let’s stop the nonsense, and start using common sense!’ and I completely agree,” stated Alesea School Superintendent and candidate for Oregon governor Marc Thielman. “All who testified on this call were well-informed as they spoke about OHA’s clear overreach to bodily autonomy–it was truly encouraging that the tides continue to shift away from the public’s acceptance of these unconstitutional rules.” He added,

“At what point will Governor Kate Brown and OHA listen to the diversity of voices they are tasked with serving as countless health experts across the globe move to balance health measures against the collateral damages done by the very measures they installed in an attempt to protect the public?”

Thielman was the only gubernatorial candidate to testify on the call. Less than a dozen states in America still impose mask mandates, while British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a day prior, on Wednesday, the decision to lift all government restrictions nationwide, including the requirement to wear face masks, beginning next Thursday.

“The sheer lack of trust between the public and this agency is obvious; the voices of hundreds of Oregonians were in complete unison at a public meeting–that’s historical and speaks to the level of frustration over these failed policies and a desire for change felt by the public,” Thielman added. “While in this case ‘permanent’ is a legal term used, it does allow for OHA to keep a rule in place indefinitely and requires going through a formal repeal or rescinding process.”

Thielman testified at 3:20 p.m., directly following the testimony of a Redmond School Board member who stated she represented an entire school board opposing the proposed rule.

He testified about,

“there’s four C’s you’ve got to have if you’re in a government agency” including, Competence, Credibility, Confidence of the public and Common Sense. He elaborated, “Common sense dictates that you don’t make an ineffective mask mandate permanent that has little to no impact on controlling the pandemic. But at this point, because OHA has killed common sense, this is what they are proposing to do. Now in terms of OHA’s credibility, OHA’s credibility has died…and my question is, did it die with COVID or because of COVID? Even the CDC finally admits what the public has known since nearly the beginning, that masks don’t really work.”

Thielman stated after the meeting that, “OAR changes are quietly being proposed by unelected bureaucrats, away from much of the public’s eye, despite a two-year budget of more than $29 billion and extremely active Facebook and Twitter accounts constantly pushing out content. Rule changes essentially circumvent the state legislature, potentially making unconstitutional administrative rules that act as laws that can drastically change the very fabric of our society and the rights and personal liberties of each and every Oregonian. Kate Brown and her agency leaders are failing the people of Oregon and bringing us further and further down, despite an already abysmal approval rating of just 43%, placing dead last in a poll, out of all Governors across America. It would be absurd if the OHA ignores this incredible show of the public’s direct opposition and would further illustrate the rhetoric mirrored by Governor Brown’s elitist out of touch and authoritarian approach to policy making.”

“Just Do It” takes on a whole new spin for Nike and, after this weekend, will never hold the same meaning for thousands of individuals set to lose their jobs and income over saying no to the jab.

The Oregon-headquartered company is set to openly discriminate and fire employees based upon personal–and what should be very private–medical decisions, not publicly-facing punitive measures that will hurt many Oregon families and individuals. Despite the recent ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration cannot enforce the unconstitutional vaccine mandate, Nike is still requiring all employees and independent contractors at its Beaverton campus headquarters to be vaccinated for COVID-19 and to use a digital app work passport to show proof of vaccination in order to enter the campus. Those who did not comply or who didn’t get their religious or medical exemptions approved, an impersonal process they outsourced to a third-party company to handle, will lose their employment. While U.S. employees are effectively being told to just do it or lose their jobs, Nike is not mandating, let alone even asking, whether overseas manufacturing workers have taken the jab to keep their jobs.

According to a recent HypeBeast article, “The Swoosh team reportedly sent out an email to 14,000 Beaverton-based associates whom did not meet the company’s December 1, 2021 vaccination deadline, and the email stated, “You failed to complete the verification process and our records show that you do not have an approved (exemption). As a result, you are not in compliance with the Policy and your employment is scheduled to be terminated on Saturday, January 15, 2022.”

Hypocrisy abounds for the mega sports brand, the highest valued on the planet boasting a brand value of over 30 billion U.S. dollars, that champions woke causes such as Black Lives Matter and signs Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL player famous for kneeling for the National Anthem, to a lucrative endorsement deal at home, virtue signalling toward liberal elites. All the while it may be directly or indirectly benefiting, according to a report published in March of 2020, to the use of Uyghur slave labor in Xinjiang Province, China, to produce some of their products.

Powerful woke corporations no longer try to hide their duplicity and are now implementing authoritarian policies in complete disregard to individual rights. Nike needs to be held accountable for its infringement of Medical Freedom and civil rights, and, as Governor of Oregon, I plan to do just that. You cannot have full informed consent in a free society if your income is being held on the line through compliance or being kicked to the curb–that is coercion and simply wrong.

In fact, Nike’s continued push has created an obvious inequality among Oregon employees, an ideology that Nike has been trying to educate the global public on since their infamous Equality ad campaign that launched in 2018, where they were asking the public to “stand up for equality.”

As quoted on a page of their website published in 2018,

“Nike has a long history of speaking up for causes that reflect its values. That continues today with EQUALITY, Nike’s ongoing effort to encourage people to take the fairness and respect they see in sport and translate them off the field. The EQUALITY initiative is centered on using the power of sport to inspire people to take action in their communities, with Nike leading by example with its partnerships with world-class organizations dedicated to advancing this work.”

Where is the fairness and respect they speak of for the employees they are forcing out of their jobs and their ability to feed their families?

Last I checked, the very definition of “equality” according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, is “the quality or state of being equal: the quality or state of having the same rights, social status, etc.”

As it stands now, in 2022, Nike continues to preach to the public about the need for equality on their website through their “Until We All Win” campaign, stating, “Equality isn’t a game. But achieving it will be our greatest victory. Until we all win.”

In fact, further down on their website they continue by describing two other campaigns they are currently promoting, the “N7” campaign and the “BeTrue” campaign, where they are asking the public to move forward from the past and look to the next seven generations of impact as well as stay true to who one’s own beliefs in their convictions for individuality and pursuit of social justice.

I don’t think Nike leadership wants the public to understand just how hypocritical they are being here in Oregon with their segregational, oppressive program pushing out hard-working employees from their jobs simply because they don’t want to be forced to take the jab!

Oregon’s “my body my choice” Governor Kate Brown is the least popular governor in all of America, according to a poll that gathered responses between July and October of 2021. Brown, too, has pushed these predatory mandates forcefully onto state workers, law enforcement, teachers, first responders and frontline healthcare workers yet can’t seem to spot her own hypocrisy or policy failings as she and the Oregon Health Authority now seem to turn to look the other way as the undeniable science of breakthrough cases and vaccine failure mounts.

President Biden’s approval rating continues to plummet precipitously since instituting a vaccine requirement for businesses with 100 or more workers, which he has now taken to employers directly to ask them to enforce it, since the U.S. Supreme Court says that OSHA cannot enforce his mandate. Specifically, what SCOTUS ruled on is that the Secretary of Labor, acting on behalf of President Joe Biden and through OSHA, “…exceeds its [OSHA’s] statutory authority and is otherwise unlawful.”

This ruling is concurrent with the initial ruling by Judge Engelhardt of the 5th Circuit Court. Federal agencies–or state agencies for that matter–should not be granted the power to enforce unconstitutional mandates. (Here is an excellent piece published by Oregon’s own renowned peer-reviewed researcher Dr. Henry Ealy on the recent court proceedings.)

The entire efforts surrounding the mandate by the Biden Administration sent a strong message to Americans: We do not believe you should have bodily integrity or autonomy and the federal government is intent on trying to make or influence medical decisions for you. Likewise, Nike’s vaccine requirement is an unlawful overreach.

This past September, multiple Black Lives Matter leaders publicly criticized New York’s vaccine passport program as racist following a violent altercation at a Manhattan restaurant September 16. “We are serving notice on the mayor, on the governor, on the restaurant industry that we will not allow for you to use this pandemic, vaccination cards, and masks as another reason to be racist, to put us in prison,” Kimberly Bernard, co-founder of the Black Women’s March, stated, according to National Review. “What is going to stop the Gestapo, I mean the NYPD, from rounding up black people, from snatching them off the train, off the bus?” asked Chivona Newsome, another BLM leader, at a protest following the restaurant incident.

Nike is set to roll out a vaccine passport program for its employees shortly. Despite announcing a forty million dollar commitment over four years in June, 2020 to support the Black community in the United States, Nike seems clueless as to the impact of their discriminatory policies to people of color. Such contradictions need to be called out and the truth be made clear to the citizens of Oregon where one of the world’s most powerful brands is headquartered.

Nike’s policies being pushed speak to the current decision our state and our nation faces as we look ahead to what’s on the line for voters in 2022: authoritarianism vs. freedom. Do we allow for such coercive policies and corporate culture rife with hypocrisy and unconstitutional overreach that mirrors the ideology of Communist China or “show me your papers” Nazi, Germany? Or, conversely, do we want to keep the core values of freedom and individual rights and liberties for Oregonians and the American people? The choice is ours to make.

The slogan Nike uses in its advertisements with Colin Kaepernick features a pithy tagline: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” I find this statement ironic coming from a company that has demonstrated such piousness in its policies worldwide. My message to Oregonians is simple: believe in the U.S. and Oregon constitutions and the rights they protect. Otherwise we will have sacrificed everything.

As we quickly head toward transitioning into 2022, I have been deeply reflective of 2021. Of all the many actions I took to answer countless calls to help families and individuals in need across the state, this photo is one of my very favorites from this past year, and what it represents. This may not seem iconic upon initial review, but for Oregon, it was historical.

The photo above was taken in June at our in-person eighth-grade graduation ceremony for Alsea School, just days after our in-person high school graduation had also successfully and safely taken place. The ability to have full, in-person learning and graduation ceremonies meant the world to our staff, our students and their families, and to me, personally. I had had a year where I drove several students to our school each day so they could return to the classroom as their own school doors remained closed to full services. What was revealed to me about the significance of that was especially brought forth with our new student Sam, a senior, who had transferred into my district after his parents approached me for help. His story will never leave me and holds a special place in my heart.

Standing there with Brenda, my beautiful and supportive wife, as we were watching students sing the national anthem before I headed up to stage where I shared some words, was a snapshot in time that I will never forget. I’m glad this photo was captured so I could share it with all of you, too.

I’m proud of the incredible work accomplished as a community to make it a reality, despite outside naysayers that said we would cause harm by staying open. In fact, it would have been quite the opposite. Grave harm happened across communities where schools were closed to full, in-person learning, and families, businesses and children suffered greatly as a result of failed lockdown policies. It breaks my heart to know of such suffering. It adds to my resolve to help renew our state and support all Oregonians!

I pray that 2022 brings about more courageous action in your own local community to stand up to do what’s right, even in the face of adversity. We must bring truth forward and step into action for a more just Oregon and a more just America. The rest of the world depends upon us holding the line, and in Oregon, we are on the very front lines of special-interest led agendas and corporate influence.

According to an article published in Free West Media earlier in August, titled “Bombshell leak: Countries that buy Pfizer’s vaccine undertake to break the law,” major corruption surrounding leaked Pfizer contracts has been uncovered.

If true, this warrants an immediate investigation and greater transparency from those signing the contracts; no mandate, law or ordinance should ever be passed or changed to undue and erode consumer protection measures, force consumers into users of said product/service, etc. at the sole benefit of special interests.

In a recent KGW8 report titled Oregon law prevents hospitals from requiring employees get vaccinated, the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems is pushing for a change of a 1989 law (ORS 433.416) prohibiting Oregon hospitals to require any of their employees to be vaccinated. This report also shows an OHA spokesperson mentioning that a rule change would have to come from the Oregon legislature. Will we be seeing any changes to current Oregon law during a special session? This is certainly something to keep an eye on.

Employer vaccination mandates have been a very hot topic recently, especially as the October 18, 2021, deadline set by Governor Brown quickly approaches and hundreds of healthcare workers have already received their pink slips despite many trying to submit legitimate religious or medical reasons for abstaining. It’s unbelievable that we have arrived at a time in history where we even have to worry about protecting our bodily autonomy against medical mandates here in the United States of America.

Until now, we’ve only given our time, skills and expertise in exchange for monetary compensation and benefits. Employers are now being pressured by governmental agencies to change that mutually agreed upon employer-employee working relationship.
